Lampard told brilliant £60 million Chelsea target Grealish ‘will 100 per cent’ leave in the summer if…..
Paul Merson has told the likes of Chelsea that Jack Grealish will 100 per cent leave Aston Villa in the summer if they go down.
The 24-year-old is reportedly high on the transfer wishlist of Blues boss Frank Lampard, after an impressive league campaign for Villa in which he has registered seven goals and six assists.
Lmapard knows that he needs to add a bit more quality and creativity to his midfield in the summer but is also looking to add value for money, and Grealish has made himself the perfect transfer target for the club.
Dean Smith’s side were 19th in the table and two points from safety with a game in hand when the 2019-20 season was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, and asked whether Grealish would be forced to leave Aston Villa if the club drop back into the Championship, Merson told Sky Sports: ‘100 per cent. ‘If Villa go down, I think Grealish will be sold. He’s a Villa through and through, he loves the club.
‘But he will have to move on if he wants to better himself, there’s no doubt about that.
‘It’s hard to say that because Villa is a great club but he needs to be playing in the Premier League. He would have to leave.’
Merson also said Grealish had a better chance of forcing his way into the England squad for Euro 2020 in the aftermath of the coronavirus crisis.
‘I think it probably helps Jack Grealish in that sense,’ the Arsenal legend added.
‘He probably wasn’t getting in the squad [if the tournament happened this summer] but with one more good season he could.
‘I’m afraid to say as an ex-Villa man that he’ll probably move on. ‘But football is a funny game. Young players who were flying before this all happened could suddenly lose form.’
