Giroud announces he wants to fight as Chelsea line-up move for goal-machine Piatek

Olivier Giroud has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Chelsea during the January transfer window.

Giroud has only managed to score one goal this season as he struggles to be the regular starter that the Italian needs to win the Premier League this season.

And that has led to speculation that he could be sold in the coming transfer window and replaced by the exciting Genoa star Krzysztof Piatek, who already has nine goals in 11 Serie A games this season.

But the France World Cup winner, who only has one goal this season,  says he is only focused on securing more game at Stamford Bridge and will fight for his career here at the club.

He told TeleFoot: “Would I have to consider a departure to keep my place in the national team? I feel like it is as if we are where we were several months ago when I was being asked the same questions before the World Cup.

“Today I am calm, happy with this World Cup title. I don’t need to put myself under more pressure than that.

“Of course, I am a competitor and I would like more playing time. But I am in a very big club, with very big players.

“I am going to fight and for the moment, it is not a question about seeking a departure. I am going to stick in there and do not expect me to give up.”

Here is what we think.

Although Giruod has been a solid buy since his arrival from Arsenal and is a good impact player off the bench, he will never score us 20-30 goals a season, and that is simply not good enough if we want to be Champions of both Europe and England.

So if Sarri needs to make space by letting Giroud go, then we wouldn’t mind Piatek replacing the Frenchman.
