Barcelona presidential hopeful Victor Font insists that the club cannot afford to sign CHELSEA linked Nico Williams this summer.

The 21-year-old has banged in seven goals and grabbed 16 assists in 34 appearances for Athletic Bilbao this season across all fronts and is a player that is attracting some of the games biggest clubs.

It is no secret that Enzo Maresca is looking to add some more quality to his attack and with the transfer window open for a few more weeks – he is keen to bolster his squad with another winger – to help cove injuries etc.

Now Font has opened up and put a spanner in the works after revealing that Barcelona cannot afford to sign Williams this summer window – Font said: “I wish we could sign Nico Williams as it is what we need. The president [Joan Laporta] has said it is possible, but that is not true.

‘Today, it cannot be done. We hope it will be possible tomorrow, or the following day. But today, it is not.”

All the clubs that have been chasing Williams will be given a massive boost from this as many believed that a move to Barcelona was going to happen.

We have the money and the pedigree to now win the race for Williams – but will he really be interested in making a move to the Premier League when he really wants to stay in La Liga?
