Steven Gerrard killed speculation his Aston Villa striker and shock Chelsea target Ollie Watkins could leave the club.

It is no secret that there is alot of speculation in the media which has suggested that Chelsea were looking to offload Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner after a very forgettable season with the club

The two hitmen were regarded as two of the most deadly strikers in the game before they made the move to London, and despite some encouraging performances in that shirt, they have been massive flops

That has led to many reports in the media that the club will once again scroll Europe in hope that they can sign a forward, or two, that will bring in the type of goals that will help them regain that Premier League and Champions League titles

But it has been claimed that Watkins is a player that most of the big clubs in the Premier League have been looking at trying to sign over the next few months as he really is a very good forward

However, amid the speculation that Watkins could leave – Villa boss Gerrard dismissed it as a total non-starter and said: “We love Ollie and really enjoy working with him.

“To take this club where we need to take it we need goalscorers, we need top players and Ollie Watkins is a top player.

“I will fight as hard as I need to fight if it ever comes up. But it’s not going to because I know the owners and I know Christian Purslow (CEO) and Johan Lange (Director of Football) are on the same page.

“We want to build this around the likes of Ollie Watkins. We are delighted with him.

“He’s our leading scorer this year so for me it doesn’t make sense at all to even listen to speculation about Ollie Watkins. It’s a straight no”
