Santi Canizares has warned new Chelsea signing Joao Felix must ‘change his personality’ if he is to fulfil his potential.

After not meeting the grade over at Atletico Madrid – Joao Felix made the decision this January to depart the Spanish side and make the move to the Premier League – where Chelsea were waiting.

The Blues beat off the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal to secure a loan deal for Felix until the end of the season – with a further option of making it more permanent should he impress during his time in England.

He made his debut against Fulham in midweek and saw himself get sent off – but there were glimpses of the talent that he may bring to Stamford Bridge over the next few months.

Now former Real Madrid and Valencia goalkeeper Santi Canizares believes Felix is the one most responsible for his struggles – and has told the man he needs to change his personality

‘The club is not to blame for anything about Joao Félix,’ Canizares told Radio Marca. ‘On the contrary, they placed a trust in him that perhaps he did not deserve, they hired him for a fortune. He has talent, but he has to change his personality.’

‘He [Simeone] is partly to blame for not having been able to exploit Joao Félix. Now, the most important thing a coach can count on is the player’s will and the player has never been humble enough to overcome difficult moments within the club.

‘When he has not seen himself starting, he has twisted his nose, when he has seen that he is not the leader of the team, he has not taken a step forward’.
