Chelsea Fans told why legend has made STUNNING RETURN

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed the interim appointment of Frank Lampard at CHELSEA “makes sense” but also claims he will not get the job on a permanent basis.

Lampard was sacked as Everton boss in January with the Merseysiders involved in a relegation battle for the second consecutive season, but is now back in charge of Chelsea until the end of the season after the Blues sacked Graham Potter.

There has been some big names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge – but with the big names reluctant to join the club so close to the end of the season – the board made the decision to take their time with the hiring of their next manager.

But any fans that were hoping that Frank Lampard would be the next long-term boss can think again, according to Agbonlahor, who has claimed that he will have no chance of staying beyond the end of the season.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I don’t think it’s as silly as some people are saying.

“Lampard was sacked by Chelsea before, yes, but he wasn’t dreadful.

“At Everton, most managers would have failed. The club is a mess.

“It makes sense to bring him back. They don’t want to rush into appointing someone new.

“They’ve got two months to speak to everyone and really take their time in this decision.

“In that time, you’ve got a club legend to steady the ship. Even if he gets to the Champions League final – there’s no chance he’s getting the job.

“Chelsea know Lampard wants to prove what he can do – and it’s a chance for him to get another Premier League job in the summer. It works for all parties.”
