CHELSEA FC continue to be linked with a late January transfer window move for Karim Benzema, but they have been told he could be a great signing.

Some big names have been linked with a move to the club – but so has the name of Karim Benzema – who decided to ditch European football just six months ago and make the move to Saudi Arabian football for the money.

But according to L’Equipe, the striker is expected to stay in Saudi Arabia despite the recent rumours., and the report adds that those around the 36-year-old say he feels good and will remain with Al-Ittihad

However – to L’Equipe now say that Benzema has sought permission to leave Al-Ittihad, so that he can reignite his career elsewhere.

His £85.9million-a-year wages could pose a problem for all the big clubs – but  Former player Boudewijn Zenden believes he would be a great fit this month.

Speaking to Betway, he said: “I believe the one thing that’s missing at Chelsea is a striker that could make a difference. Benzema could be that player. We go way back but look at Hasselbaink, Drogba – they always had strikers to give you the edge.

“That’s what they’re lacking a little. Benzema’s record is second to none – he would really help the club…”

There has been so much speculation regarding the Frenchman – but if we really wanted to get a deal done for the striker – they surely would have done it by now.
