Inter respond to rumours that they are in talks with Chelsea over Emerson deal

Inter have rejected reports that they are in the midst of negotiations with Chelsea over the potential arrival of Emerson Palmieri.

We signed the former Santos star for £17.6million in January 2018, as he was signed  as a back-up option for Marcos Alonso, who proved many people wrong by becoming one of the best left-backs in the country.

But Emerson has rejuvenated himself and the defender is now above Alonso in the pecking order after making 27-appearances under the guidance of Maurizio Zarri last season and impressing new boss Frank Lampard in the early goings of the new season.

However, there has been alot of speculation in the media over the past few weeks which have suggested that he could be one of the players that Frank Lampard will seek to offload in the summer in order to raise funds to acquire his personal signings.

And according to recent reports on the Sky Sports website, Inter are looking to strengthen on the left after securing the service of right-sided wing-back Achraf Hakimi from Real Madrid earlier in the week for around £36m, and have begun negotiations with the club about a possible deal.

However, while he appears to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge, the San Siro outfit have indicated that they have not opened talks with the Blues.

“I understand the many questions about transfer speculation, but I can say we have not had any contact or opened any negotiation for Emerson Palmieri,” Nerazzurri CEO Giuseppe Marotta told DAZN.

“We are making evaluations for next season, but the most important issue remains this current campaign.”

Emerson leaving the club would open the door for us to try and sign a new left-back that has the ability to both defend and attack, something that Emerson has been unable to do during hi time with the club.
