Chelsea fans look on as possible £50 million signing gets lauded by ex-Premier League star

Peter Crouch has lauded Chelsea target Dayot Upamecano, while also claiming he’s a lot better than RB Leipzig loanee Ethan Ampadu.

We have been in the transfer headlines a lot over the past few months as there is a very strong suggestion that Frank Lampard will be handed funds, and be able to sign some top-class players during the summer transfer window that will help improve his side.

There is no doubt that he has some brilliantly gifted players at the club, but there are key areas of the pitch that he needs to work on and has been linked with a move for Upamecano, as he is in desperate need of adding some quality to that iffy back-line.

Upamecano was recalled to the line-up to face Spurs in the Champions League after missing the first leg due to suspension, but his performances over the past 12 months have meant that a whole host of clubs are ready to meet his £50 million asking price and try to take him away from Leipzig.

And amid all the transfer speculation linking him to England, Crouch couldn’t help but laud the young man, Speaking on BT Sport, he said: “I thought Ampadu was an adequate replacement [in the first leg] to say the least to be honest, he was dictating play in the centre of that back three.

“Upamecano is similar in some ways. I think he’s probably better defensively than Ampadu, makes some fantastic interceptions.

“There’s big talk about him, maybe Arsenal looking at him for a big, big fee.

“I think defensively he’s definitely better than Ampadu but he’s also got a pass in him as well, he’s not just breaking up play, he’s setting up attacks. That’s why he’s so valued.”

Ampadu has been decent for Leipzig, but Upamecano is different class and if we could sign him up in the summer, he would most certainly improve the back-line.
