Manchester City are not preparing to break their transfer record for Atletico Madrid midfielder and Chelsea target Saul Niguez, according to Pep Guardiola.
Niguez has developed into one of the most creative and productive players in La Liga under the guidance of Diego Simeone and is now regarded as one of the best talents in world football, and his performances over the past few seasons has caught the attentions of both Chelsea and City.
We are keen to add a bit of youth to the squad, as the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Pedro and even Willian are no spring chickens anymore and all three have been linked with moves away at the end of the season.
However, amid speculation that City are ready to spend big and bring the young man to England, Guardiola has handed us a massive boost by admitting they are not interested in Niguez.
“Manchester City have interest in 125 players in the last day, so one more,” he said on the Sky Sports website.
“Sometimes I read ‘Pep Guardiola is interested in this player’. Still I didn’t know him.
“[Saul] is a fantastic player but we are not interested in him. He is an Atletico Madrid player who is going to stay there for a long time because he is an exceptional player.”

Boss Maurizio Sarri is still keen to delve into his transfer window and add a few more players to the squad as we look to challenge for the Premier League, Europa League and domestic Cup titles.
And we have been linked with a possible move for Barella for the last 12 months, as the Cagliari star has been impressing on a number of occasions for the Italians.
Now L’Unione Sarda claim we are willing to pay £40m for the 21-year-old and there is a hope that Gianfranco Zola’s personal relationship will help bring the player to Stamford Bridge.
It is no secret that a number of players are linked with a move away from the club for various reasons and even though Barella has a lot of developing to do, coming in now would give him time to adapt to life at Stamford Bridge.
We were boosted earlier in the season, when the Italian clubs owner Tommaso Giulini admitted that they will not stand in the way of clubs trying to complete a deal in January.
Telling the TalkSport website: “Nicolo finally has a coach (Rolando Maran), who can give him a lot. If he stayed then I’d be the happiest man in the world, but it’s equally clear that the lad could have the ambition of playing in the Champions League.”
Chelsea have opened talks to sign unhappy Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez in the January transfer window.
The highly-rated midfielder was tipped to become one of the clubs next big things at Barca after showing great potential as a youngster, but he has failed to nail down a regular starting spot with the Spaniards and has become frustrated at his lack of game time.
That has led to speculation that we could make a move in January as aging midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been linked with a move back to the Camp Nou, as it looks like he will not be getting a new contract with the club.
Now Spanish website Marca report that after extensive talks this week, Barcelona have decided to sell Suarez in the upcoming transfer window and we are already holding talks with Suarez’s representatives about a possible move.
It is believed that Barca would accept a bid of €15 million (£13.4m) for the midfielder.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says the club will not entertain any interest in Chelsea target Callum Wilson when the transfer window opens in January.
Wilson has forced his way into the England set-up this season by scoring seven times and marked his first international cap with a goal in the win over the United States at Wembley in November, with his impressive performances catching the eye of boss Maurizio Sarri
It is o secret that Sarri is desperate to improve the front line in the coming transfer windows as he firmly believes that the strike-force in one area that really needs improving on, especially as Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata will not bang in 20-30 goals a season.
And with the transfer window just a few weeks away, Howe, is not about to let any of the Cherries’ core squad depart.
“Yes, we are (confident),” Howe said on the Sky Sports website.
“At this stage we are just focusing on the matches, we have got so many games to come around the Christmas period, I am sure Callum is the same, he is focusing on his football.
“We are certainly not anticipating losing players in January that we don’t want to.”
