Goalkeeper Jamie Cumming has signed a new Chelsea contract and is delighted to have committed his long-term future to the club.

Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi are just a few names that are tipped to become superstars at the club and under the guidance of Frank Lampard and now Cumming will be hoping to get some regular first team opportunities under the club legend.

The teenager has been at the club since the age of eight and featured in both Dublin friendlies as well as our most recent outing away at Reading. After being confirmed as our third-choice keeper for the coming campaign, he has now committed himself to the Blues until at least 2023.

‘It’s brilliant news, a very proud moment for me and my family,’ he told the official Chelsea website after putting pen to paper at Cobham.

‘I’ve been here since the age of eight so to sign a new contract that keeps me here until I’m 23 is a great achievement. I’m now really looking forward to the new season.’

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho has insisted that former club Chelsea do not need to go out and buy a new defender as they already have Kurt Zouma.

We were heavily criticised for some of our defensive performances last season, which almost cost us a top four spot and a Europa League crown and the Blues were widely expected to try and delve into their transfer kitty this transfer window.

But Mourinho has suggested that we do not need to go out and spend a whole bunch of money on a new defender as they already have the impressive Zouma, who had a very decent spell at Everton last season

“It depends on what you have in the academy, that’s the point,” Mourinho said on the Sky Sports website.

“I think every manager in the world loves to play kids from the academy.

“The question is: what is the product from the academy? What can you work with to improve?

“I think Chelsea is a very special club in relation to that. I just give an example: Chelsea needs a centre-back – Kurt Zouma! You don’t need to buy, you don’t need to spend. Zouma!

“He’s champion of England, he played for Chelsea, played for Stoke in the Premier League, played for Everton in the Premier League, played for France. He’s your player, he’s on loan, where are you going to buy a better player than him? You already have him.
