Chelsea could be adding very powerful striker to that Blues attack in £85M move
CHELSEA FC is reportedly eyeing Sporting Lisbon’s powerhouse striker, Viktor Gyökeres, as the January transfer window approaches, and he could be a great signing according to reporter Iomie Stanley.
Gyokeres is one of a number of Sporting CP players who could leave the Portuguese club in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s departure, with CHELSEA likely to chase the former Coventry striker once again.
O Jogo reports that Gyokeres’ is “dissatisfied” with the decision of the head coach to depart for Manchester United, as the Portuguese boss was one of the main reasons that he stayed in the summer window.
Stanley said: ‘Viktor Gyökeres has developed into a forceful presence at Sporting Lisbon, known for his combination of physicality, finishing ability, and aerial strength. Chelsea, under Enzo Maresca, has been experimenting with various attacking formations but still lacks a consistent target man who can lead the line effectively.
‘Gyökeres, with his 6’2” frame and skill in holding up play, would provide a classic center-forward option that CHELSEA currently lacks.
‘The Swedish international’s ability to score in high-pressure situations and create space for teammates would add a new dimension to Chelsea’s attack. His high work rate and pressing ability align well with Maresca tactics, which emphasize aggressive pressing and fluid transitions. This could make Gyökeres an ideal fit for Chelsea’s high-tempo game, adding physicality and finesse to their offensive lineup.
He added: ‘While Chelsea has the financial clout to pursue top talent, Sporting Lisbon won’t be eager to part ways with one of their star players. Having only recently acquired Gyökeres from Coventry City, Sporting will likely set a high price tag on the Swedish striker to ward off interest.
‘However, Chelsea’s recent transfer history shows that the club is willing to pay a premium for players who can contribute to their long-term vision.’
