Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui has insisted he does not see any indication that Chelsea target Jules Kounde will leave his current club this summer.
Kounde has racked up 89 appearances across all competitions for Sevilla over the past two years, earning a Europe League winners’ medal and a place in the France national team in the process
His performances for the Spanish side over the past few seasons has led to alot of speculation in the media that we see him as an ideal player to come in and improve that back line.
Kounde is the Blues’ top defensive target but there is yet to be an offer for the France international, according to reports, and now Lopetegui has opened up and suggested that Kounde could stay at the club this transfer window
Lopetegui was quoted on the Sun: “I don’t have the feeling that this is his last game. There is nothing that tells me that he will not continue with us.
“He played a very good game. Things can happen until 31st August. We need to strengthen positions and we are working on it.”
Amid the rumours, Frank Leboeuf has come out and claimed the 22-year-old would be a valuable addition to Thomas Tuchel’s ranks at Stamford Bridge, but has also suggested that he won’t just walk straight into the Blues’ starting XI if he joins the club this summer.
“He’s (Kounde) a fantastic player,” the former Chelsea centre-back has told ESPN. “He has everything. He is a warrior. He never gives up. He has everything. He is the future for sure.
“Maybe it’s an opportunity for Chelsea to get him maybe not this season, but next season.
“I don’t know what Kounde wants to do in his life, if he’s ready to be on the bench more than he thinks he will be. It’s up to him. It would be a good signing for Chelsea.”
