Chelsea have been told Barcelona star Jordi Alba can leave the Camp Nou for just £133 million.
The Spanish star is regarded as one of the best left-backs on the planet and has become an instrumental part of the Barcelona set-up over the seasons. But the 29-year old has been surprisingly linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, as the Spaniards have failed to hand him a new contract.
Now the TalkSport website has claimed Barca have told all interested parties that they are unlikely to consider selling the left-back unless they are forced to by a bid of £133million, which would trigger the release clause written into his existing contract.
We already have Marcos Alonso in the left-back area but there is always the need to have strength in depth in the squad, and if the Spaniard picks up a serious injury, Maurizio Sarri has no adequate cover to replace Alonso if he gets injured.
However, signing Alba for £133 million could become a huge problem for the club as the Spaniard will want to replace Alonso, not be a backup over the course of the next few seasons and Alonso has been far too impressive to be dropped from the side.
Would signing Alba be worth the hassle?
Alba is one of the best left-backs in world football and has won pretty much everything in the game, but rather than splashing £133 million on trying to sign the Spaniard would be a waste of money, especially as Sarri needs to improve other areas of the squad in the coming transfer windows.
So we would prefer that Sarri spent such a big amount of money on a new centre-half or two, as a new left-back is not needed right now, even if Alonso picks up some sort of injury.
