Real Madrid target Marcos Alonso has revealed he is close to signing a new deal with Chelsea.
Since making the move back to the Premier League a few seasons ago, Alonso has developed into one of the best left-backs in world football and is one of the main creative forces for boss Maurizio Sarri.
However, his performances for the club has meant the likes of Madrid are eyeing up a potential deal at the end of the season, with reports they are ready to spend close to £500 million in the transfer window to revamp the aging squad.
But amid all the speculation, he has given the club a massive boost by announcing a contract has been offered by the club, and he is on the verge of signing a new contract.
Alonso told the Sky Sports website: “I am very calm and very happy at Chelsea, and the club must also be happy with me because, although I still have two years left on my contract, they have offered me an extension.
“We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced. If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month – in the coming days.”
He added: “My father takes care of that as he is the one who leads the negotiations. I am 27-years-old, I still have two more years and I am going to extend my contract.
“What concerns me is to play as well as possible to win matches and titles with Chelsea and with the national team. I’m calm with my contract.!
Will signing a new contract stop all the transfer rumours?
The answer to that is probably not, especially since signing contracts these days mean nothing. But if we can keep Alonso happy and keep playing the kind of football which has made this season so exciting, then keeping hold of Alonso and Eden Hazard next summer is a real possibility.
