Premier League legend has exciting Abraham – Werner message for Chelsea fans
John Barnes reckons Timo Werner is not a classic number-nine forward and can play alongside Tammy Abraham
After months and months and months of transfer speculation, after months of seeing Liverpool linked with a move for Timo Werner, after seeing the German bang in over 30 goals for RB leipzig, we decided to make their move.
Frank Lampard wanted to add another young striker to his side in the summer, and decided that a £50 million move for Werner was the right one to make, with reports suggesting that we have paid just £50 million to secure a transfer deal, while the German will get around £175,000-a-week.
But despite many claims in the media that Abraham and Werner will not be able to play alongside each other next season, Barnes has opened up and claimed that we could switch to a 4-3-3 formation, much like Liverpool.
He told BonusCodeBets: “Werner is not a classic number-nine. He plays like a Salah, or Mané and comes in from wide positions.
“He doesn’t have his back to play a whole lot. And isn’t one of those to bring people into play.
“You can see him playing better alongside Abraham and you may even see Chelsea play more of a 4-3-3 formation with Calum Hudson-Odoi also.
“You need a big squad, but I don’t think that Werner is necessarily coming replace Abraham.”
It will be very interesting to see just how Lampard plays these two together because they could become the best partnership in the game over the next few seasons.
