Olivier Giroud has sent a clear message to Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri after scoring twice in the Europa League win over PAOK.
Giroud has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the first few weeks of the new season, as he simply could not find the back of the net on a regular basis, despite the fact that he plays in 90 per cent of the games for Sarri.[the_ad id=”238″]
However, over the past few weeks he has started to find his goal-scoring touch and has now netted five times in the last five games after putting in another dominating performance against minnows PAOK, as Sarri bounced back from a disappointing result against Tottenham last weekend.
But amid all the transfer speculation that Sarri is ready to delve into his transfer kitty during the January transfer window to try and acquire the services of Inter Milan star Mauro Icardi or Genoa goal machine Krzysztof Piatek, Giroud has admitted that he is happy to get back among the goals, and will always give his best for the club.
He said on the Chelsea website: “I’ve scored goals in the past but it’s true that I was waiting for more chances.
“When the manager starts me I try to give my best, do my part.”
“The main target was to win, we needed a strong team reaction and we did it well tonight.
“I am really happy with the team spirit and we can move forwards now and start some new momentum. Four goals plus a clean sheet, a good night for us.”[the_ad id=”164″]
Will Giroud bring us 20-30 goals a season?
Giroud has been finding the net on a regular basis over the past few weeks and we are delighted that he a happy man, but he is more of an impact player than a regular starter and unfortunately we will be lucky to see him get double figures this season.
We still need a big time striker to come in and help out Giroud with the goal-scoring as Alvaro Morata is once again useless, so although we are happy he is scoring, we would much rather see Icardi or Piatek in the starting line-up.
