Ruben Loftus-Cheek accepts why there are calls for him to leave Chelsea but says he is intent on staying at Stamford Bridge.
Loftus-Cheek had an incredible breakthrough season at Crystal Palace last season and even managed to work his way into the England squad that went to the World Cup, where he continued his development and was one of the surprises of the National side, along with Leicester City defender Harry Maguire.
But despite a quiet start to the new season and rumours that he could leave in the January transfer window if his game time does not improve between now and the winter window, he has impressed over the last few weeks and netted a hat-trick in the Europa League fixture against Bate, then netting in the 4-0 smashing at Burnley last weekend.
And amid the speculation surrounding his future, Loftus-Cheek has admitted that he has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge and, and will look to fight for his career.
He told Soccer AM: “I hear it a lot, and I can see why people are saying that, because I’m 22 now and haven’t got too many Premier League starts to my name. I haven’t played too many minutes, whether it be in the Premier League and the Championship, and at 22 it’s not seen as enough by some people.
“I do hear it. I love the club and I love Chelsea, I want to play for Chelsea.
“I made a lot of steps last year. Playing football was massive for me and you can see why people want to see me play, and I want to play as well.”
Here is what we think on his Stamford Bridge future.
Yes there is a lot of competition at Chelsea for Loftus-Cheek to get through and yes he is well down the pecking order, but the lad is only 22-years of age and has plenty of time to break into the starting eleven and be a regular.
So when people are telling him to leave for the sake of his career, it is just a remarkable thing as he is a talent, that WILL develop into a star, and he will do it here.
