Cech backs stopper to be at Chelsea this summer amid massive transfer speculation

Chelsea icon Petr Cech has opened up and backed Kepa to stay at the club this transfer window.

The goalkeeper has had a rough year and has been heavily linked with a move away from the club as reports have suggested that Frank Lampard no longer trusts the young man and is seeking to add another goalkeeper to the squad.

But Kepa is in no mood to leave the club and is eager to stay and fight for his place in the side this coming season, and club legend Petr Cech has backed the him and insisted the club aren’t looking to cast him aside.

“Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable,” Cech – now a technical and performance advisor at Chelsea – told Sport.cz.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.

“Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now.

“But nobody is giving up on Kepa and we all hope he has a great future.”

There is no doubt that Kepa is a very talented young stopper that is still learning in the game, so to just cast him aside this transfer window would be a mistake, so the fact that he wants to stay and fight for his career at the club is good news.

I hope he stays and proves that he can become one of the very best stoppers in the game.
