Chelsea told £70 million Chilwell deal will make us Premier League contenders
Craig Burley has claimed Chelsea signing Ben Chilwell would make them Premier League contenders next season.
Frank Lampard has already secured a transfer deal for Hakim Ziyech, while Timo Werner seems to be the latest big named player to make that move to Stamford Bridge after the Blues activated his £50 million release clause.
And former Blues midfielder Craig Burley says the addition of Chilwell could make his old side Premier League title contenders next season: “The other signing we talked about there, Ben Chilwell, I really like him, really, really like him,” Burley told ESPN FC.
“I looked at clubs in England that might need a left-back, I thought Man City, who have got full-backs but have had a problem in that area, might go for him.
“If Chelsea can get Ben Chilwell, that would be a huge signing as well because he’s got unbelievable pace to get up and down that wing. When Lampard likes to play [Marcos] Alonso, it’s in a back three.
“He doesn’t like him as a full-back. He has to play [Cesar] Azpilicueta there but he’s a right footer.
“Ben Chilwell will give them great balance down that left-hand side and if he can get those two signings, on top of all those other players we’ve mentioned, Chelsea will be in the mix next season. There’s not a doubt about it for me.”
Chilwell is brilliant and we are massive fans of the man, but there are a few options out there that have proved themselves at the highest level of the game and would cost alot less.
He would be a fantastic signing for the club, but no way is he worth that £75 million or whatever Leicester wants in the summer.
If we can get him less, then he is welcome, anything more, and no!
