Boss opens door for Chelsea to sign powerhouse striker

toney

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has stayed coy over CHELSEA target Ivan Toney’s future – although hinted again the Bees forward will leave the club this summer.

The transfer window is still open until the end of August and it will give the club more chances to start getting some deals done that will send a statement to the rest of the Premier League for new boss Enzo Maresca.

The club performed terribly last season and really struggled for goals, with Cole Palmer the only player to break the 20 goal barrier, so it is vital that the Blues board allow Enzo Maresca to add a new forward to that attack over the next few months.

Toney is out of contract at the end of next season, while Igor Thiago, who may be his replacement, scored twice in their 5-2 friendly win at AFC Wimbledon this afternoon, And now Frank has admitted that the club could sell the big man.

He told Sky Sports News: “You never know! He’s a Brentford player and I would love him to stay. It would give me a very positive challenge.

“I haven’t met a coach who doesn’t want as many good players as possible. Right now, he’s a Brentford player.

“He’s enjoying his time off and I’m happy, if he’s here with us I’ll be more than happy. A 20-goal goalscorer, there’s two things in that. It’s very good to have that in your team, and it makes him expensive!

“We’ve said before, I want to keep all my players, besides maybe five or six clubs in the world we’re a selling club – and if there’s the right bid which comes in, fine.”
