Spurs star Alderweireld tells Chelsea boss Sarri he could leave Tottenham in summer
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has alerted Chelsea to a possible summer deal, after announcing he could leave in the summer.
Alderweireld is regarded as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League and has been a mainstay in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, helping Spurs continue to play in the Champions League and challenge for the Premier League title.
But over the past twelve months there has been constant speculation in the media that he could leave the club, with many reports suggesting that Tottenham do not want to pay him the kind of wages that he is demanding, which are believed to be around the £150,000-a-week mark.
[the_ad id=”164″]And that has led to speculation we could make a summer move to try and secure a £25 million transfer deal, but the transfer ban has stopped all talk about a possible deal as we simply cannot buy anyone.
But now the Belgium does not know if he will be at the club next season.
He told Sky Sports News: “There’s a lot to play for this season. And in the end I have a year contract left at Spurs, so I don’t look further than this season.
“Other things I don’t know. I am very happy at Spurs, so we will see what the future brings.
“I still feel very fit. I think I played a lot of minutes this season so I showed that I am fit – I don’t feel 30, I feel younger.
“So as I said, I am very happy and I just try to watch game-by-game. This season there is a lot to play for so I will give my best for that.”
Here is what we think,
Alderweireld is a top-class defender that could have improved our back-line, so if he leaves Spurs in the summer he will be a massive loss to their back-line. But it is just a shame that we cannot make a move for his services.
