Giroud claim made, Donnarumma boost given, Lamps starting to sound like Mourinho, Haaland issues statement in icchelseannews roundup…

Frank Lampard is starting to sound like his Chelsea managerial mentor Jose Mourinho, says Glenn Hoddle.

Lampard may not have alot of managerial experience at the very top of the game, but the club decided to back the club legend in the transfer window and allow him to sign players that make the club serious contenders for that Premier League title.

A positive start has been made to that quest, with the odd bump in the road hit along the way, with the lads just a few points of top spot after losing for the first time in 17 games against Everton at the weekend.

Lampard has sought to curb expectations at regular intervals, with Hoddle opening up and suggesting that Lampard is using former club coach Mourinho to help divert all the attention away from the expectations of the club

Former Blues boss Mourinho, who Lampard enjoyed many trophy-laden years playing under, has made a career out of diverting attention away from the supposed task that he has in hand.

Hoddle told the Evening Standard when quizzed on Lampard downplaying title talk: “It is a little bit like Jose Mourinho saying Tottenham are like a ‘little pony’ in the race compared to the thoroughbred racehorses. I can see where Frank is coming from.

“But if there is ever a season where someone can come through and win the Premier League, it could be this year. You only have to look at the results this past weekend.

“Now Chelsea brought in Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech, they have unbelievable firepower, and they have brought Thiago Silva in and brought in a goalkeeper which seems to have sorted their defensive issues.

“I can see why Frank is underplaying it, and yes Liverpool and Manchester City are still the favourites, but Chelsea and Tottenham are in with a fighting chance.”

Former Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny revealed he tried to convince Olivier Giroud to leave Chelsea last season to join him at Bordeaux.

Giroud has been at the club for a few seasons now and has been a massive part of the plans, but despite a decent run of games over the past few weeks, he has been a bit-part player for well over 12 months now , and it was a shock to see him stay at the club in the summer.

There has been rumours about his next move, with Bordeaux a club linked, and now Koscielny has opened up and revealed he tried to convince Olivier Giroud to leave the club last season to join him at the French giants

Koscielny told France Football: “Yes, it’s true. I tried. Oliver didn’t come and I totally respect his choice.

“He still feels capable of playing at the highest level, in a club that plays the Champions League.

“He wants to continue to play for the France national team in the Euros and maybe even go to the 2022 World Cup.

“If he still feels capable of doing it, letting him enjoy it as much as possible.

“A career is short, I gave him all the arguments as to why I’m at Bordeaux, and he completely understood.

“He still wants to win and stay at the highest level.”

Agent Mino Raiola said the future is sunny for long-term Chelsea target Gianluigi Donnarumma, but did not say whether that would continue to be at AC Milan.

With Frank Lampard interested in adding a new stopper to the squad over the summer transfer window, there was alot of speculation in the media which suggested that wewere very interested in signing Donarumma.

Regarded as one of the finest young stoppers in the game right now, and the man to be the next Gianluigi Buffon, Donnarumma is making a real name for himself in the game and has been in the headlines alot over his future, as he simply could not agree a new contract.

That uncertainty meant that there was an opportunity for the club to wrap up a transfer deal, but that massive £80 million asking price, meant that we acquired the brilliant Edouard Mendy instead.

That has not stopped rumours that the club may still be interested in Donnarumma, to add a bit of depth to the side, and his agent has once again got his client in the transfer headlines with his latest comments.

Although there is talks with Milan about a new contract, Raiola stirred things up a bit by suggesting that the Italian stopper may be enjoying a sunny future in the game away from the Italians, Speaking to Sky Sport Italy, Raiola said: “His future is bright. Will it be sunny in Milan? The sun is everywhere, that is the important thing.

Erling Haaland has told the likes of Chelsea that he is currently happy at Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund won the race to sign Haaland from Salzburg last January and he has made a stellar start to his career at Signal Iduna Park, scoring 27 goals in 29 games in all competitions for the club.

However, there has been alot of speculation in the media that we are one of a number of clubs that believe Haaland would be the dream signing to make, despite the fact that they already have Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham

Dortmund were deemed to be the perfect stepping stone back in January 2020, with Haaland heading to Germany to plunder 33 goals through 32 appearances, and At 20 years of age, there is no need for him to rush into making another move any time soon.

However, amidst all the speculation, Haaland has come out and admitted that he is currently happy at Dortmund: “My future?” the Leeds-born starlet responded when asked on BILD “I’m happy at Borussia Dortmund. I’ve spent a great year with Favre and I want to thank him [for that].

“The Ballon d’Or is my dream here, as is the Champions League – but I’m happy with the Golden Boy.”

Look, Haaland is a very young man and does not need to leave the German side in the next couple of seasons, so it is a very good decision from the man to announce that he is happy, as it will ease some of the speculation surrounding his future at the German club
