Agent opens up and officially announces Chelsea offer to sign Juventus star
The agent of Juventus Daniele Rugani has revealed that Chelsea tried to sign his client in the transfer window.
It was no secret in the media over the summer that we were very keen to try and secure a transfer deal for a new central defender, and was heavily linked with a move for the £32 million rated Rugani.
Rugani has been on the radar of the club for many seasons now, but his high asking price and the fact that we did not want to pay mega bucks to get a deal done, meant that they have never managed to get their man.
But now Davide Torchia has come out and claimed that the club, along with the likes of Arsenal, did make an approach to get a deal done for Rugani, but did not reveal when the approaches were rejected by Juventus.
Torchia told TMW Radio: “At the time, Arsenal, Napoli, Chelsea, Zenit and Lyon arrived at around €30m [] and [they] were never taken into consideration. For those prices, Juve did not sell him, and I do not dispute whether they did right or wrong.
“With Sarri at Chelsea, then there was an offer close to 40 million, and Juve said no there too.”
Injury limited Rugani to only seven starts last season and he joined Rennes on loan in the summer, so it is probably a good thing that we missed out on the player, as he is not the same that he was just a few seasons ago.
Fans should be happy with the signing of Silva, he has been impressive in his displays for the club since his move from French football.
