£60 million world class midfielder officially tells Chelsea his summer plans
Chelsea’s pursuit of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has been handed a blow after he released a statement about his future.
The Dutch international was poised to be the focus of a heated transfer battle this summer with the suggestion that Barca may be forced to sell as they continue to get their finances in order.
And that has led to many reports in the media over the past few weeks that he could be coming to the Premier League at the end of the season, with the club reportedly interested in trying to secure a transfer deal.
Thomas Tuchel will be looking to add some more quality to the squad at the end of the season, and with the financial situation at Barcelona, would have been very interested in trying to sign the world class Dutchman
However, amid the speculation, De Jong has opened up and confirmed that he is very happy at Barcelona and has no intention of leaving the Camp Nou anytime soon, De Jong told The Guardian: “I’m very happy I’m at Barcelona: from a young age I’ve wanted to be here, so in that way it has been a dream come true.
“But I would have liked to win more trophies than we did in my first two years. I expected more in that sense, let’s put it that way.
“But other than that, I’m very happy here and hopefully [will be here] for many more years”
Look, De Jong is world class and it is easy to see just why he wants to stay. But at the end of the day, if we offer the right amount of money to Barcelona, they will be open to selling.
