CHELSEA have officially confirmed the arrival of striker Liam Delap to Stamford Bridge in a deal that would cost the club £30 million.

Delap scored 12 goals in 37 matches for Ipswich in his first Premier League season, despite Kieran McKenna’s side being relegated back to the Championship.

The England U21 international told Chelsea’s official website: “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach.

“It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.”

The Blues posted on the club website: ‘Delap started his career in Derby County’s academy before joining Manchester City in 2019. After a season with the club’s Under-18s, he stepped up to the Elite Development Squad, where he played under current Blues head coach Enzo Maresca.

‘The striker enjoyed a standout campaign. He netted 24 goals in 20 Premier League 2 matches, scored on his debut for City’s senior side in the League Cup, and was handed his first top-flight appearance against Leicester City.

‘Further first-team appearances followed during the 2021/22 season before he embarked on loan spells at Stoke City and Preston North End.

‘Delap spent the 2023/24 season with Hull City and, after scoring eight goals, secured a move to newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

‘The 22-year-old produced on the Premier League stage, with 12 goals struck for the Tractor Boys in 37 appearances.

‘Delap has also represented England throughout the youth age groups, with his last caps coming from the Under-21s in March.

‘Welcome to CHELSEA, Liam!’

MAN UNITED DUO WELCOMED

John Obi Mikel would welcome the arrivals of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho at CHELSEA to join the Blues’ army of young stars.

Mainoo and Granacho are two of the best young players at Man United right now, but there has been alot of speculation that the Red Devils could cash in on the duo in order to help raise some funds to bring in some more quality over the next few months.

Now, amid all the speculation, Mikel says that he would welcome the arrivals of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho: ‘I like both of these players,’ Mikel told Metro. I have no idea what the issue is with Garnacho and Ruben Amorim because for me he is one of the best players at Man United.

‘The squad is what it is, and you want to get rid of Garnacho. Really? I can’t see the sense in that because every time he plays he is a threat.

‘The issue is probably the defensive side of his game but that is something you have to work with a young player on. To change their mentality to make sure their defensive responsibilities are taken seriously.

‘With Kobbie Mainoo, maybe they feel they need to cash in on him to raise the funds. Maybe he did not have the season we all expected from him last season, he looked a shadow of the player he was when he first burst onto the scene. Again, I have no idea what the issue has been. The system, the manager? Is he not happy with the environment at the football club?

‘There are so many factors you have to look at right now with Manchester United. If those are two players Chelsea want, I will take those two, definitely. They can only come in and improve us as a football club. I know if they come in, they will improve us as a team.’

‘We have a great squad, a young team but a great squad, a team that has just tasted what it is like to win a trophy,’ Mikel continued. ‘The environment is so important when you have all these youngsters. It is not like someone is a superstar at this point. They are all young, there shouldn’t be any ego. For them, it’s a brilliant environment to develop.

‘But you need a strong manager with a strong character that can deal with them and put them in their place when they are not doing things right. Maybe give them a little kick in the backside and tell them they have to wake up. Maresca has been that guy for me.’

CHELSEA IN MAIGNAN TALKS

CHELSEA have already contacted AC Milan about a possible deal for shot-stopper Mike Maignan, as the club are constantly being linked with moves for players that will help improve the squad.

Winning a trophy and getting Champions League football last season is more than what many people had planned for Chelsea and Enzo Maresca, but the Italian boss really has done a great job at the club.

But there have been many reports in the media that we are looking to improve a number of areas in the squad and adding a new stopper to the side is something that will reportedly help us really win that Premier League title.

Robert Sanchez has been a massive part of that side this season – but he is not seen as a man that is good enough to play for one of the big Premier League clubs and has really struggled to impress.

That has led to alot of speculation in the media that we will once again delve into that transfer kitty and add a new goalkeeper to the side, and Maignon is a man that has been linked with a move to London for a while.

And it has been claimed that Chelsea are dreaming of signing Mike Maignon in the summer transfer window, according to Fichajes and have already contacted the Italian about a potential deal for the stopper.

However – it will be very hard for the Blues to get a transfer deal done as Milan have no intention of letting the big man leave.

IcChelseanews View…

Sanchez done very well last season, but at the end of the day, Maignan is world class and we would love to see him get signed

That is all we have to say…
